Apart from keeping the coat of the dog dry, Paw Care is crucial for general healthcare of the dog, especially in the rainy season. The dog is going to walk in the muck and puddles. During this season the paw pads retain the excessive moisture which causes a lot of health-related issues for the dog.
Paw Care #1 – Keep the paws clean & dry.
Wet or dirty paws can be the cause of skin or ear infections. Dogs do not have any sweat glands except in the paws. The sweat, along with the humidity in the air keeps this area wet. The sweat mixed with the muck and dirty water can be a breeding ground for fungal and bacterial infections. The dirt from the paws is spread to other parts of the body as the dog scratches itself.

After coming back from a walk in the slush and rain, it is important that the paws are cleaned and dried.

Paw Care #2 – Check between the toes.
Just cleaning the paws and paw pads is not enough. Check the space between the toes and ensure it is clean. This area also gets damp and becomes a haven for all sorts of bacteria and fungi. This is also where ticks thrive especially in the rainy season. Use a simple towel or the paw cleaner and ensure that this space is clean and devoid of ticks.
