You care more for the dogs on the road than humans – why?

A question often posed to me … “There is so much human suffering, why stray dogs over human aid?”

At the Kunashni Foundation, our commitment to the care and welfare of street dogs in Pune stems from a principle deeply rooted in empathy and the belief that compassion knows no bounds.

We’re frequently asked why we prioritize animals over humans in need. It’s a question that deserves an honest and heartfelt response so here goes ….

Animals, especially street dogs and cats, are voiceless beings. They lack the means to articulate their suffering, to ask for help, or to advocate for their well-being. Their silent presence on the streets often conceals the depth of their struggles, and it’s OUR RESPONSIBILITY to be their advocates.

In Pune, where our foundation operates, there are numerous institutions and kind individuals dedicated to human welfare. Their efforts are commendable and vital. However, the avenues for the care of homeless animals, particularly street dogs, are limited. This void in animal welfare services is what we aim to fill.

Our focus on street dogs over human aid doesn’t diminish the importance of human well-being. Rather, it complements the existing efforts dedicated to humans in need.

The drive to assist voiceless creatures doesn’t stem from neglecting human suffering but from recognizing an unmet need in our community.

Street dogs in Pune face numerous challenges—lack of shelter, food, medical care, and often, mistreatment. Our foundation steps in to provide these essentials, ensuring their health and well-being. By addressing their needs, we contribute to a more compassionate and harmonious society for both humans and animals.

In a world where voices echo for those in need, we question the disparity in response. The silent plea of a street dog, bruised and hungry on the streets of Pune, might not reach ears as swiftly as the cries of human suffering. Yet, their plight is no less urgent, their need for compassion no less vital.

The choice to champion these voiceless creatures over human silence isn’t a dismissal of human needs; it’s a testament to our capacity to advocate for the vulnerable, regardless of their ability to articulate their pain

It’s a stand for empathy that knows no boundaries and a call for a society that embraces the forgotten voices, be they human or canine, on the streets of Pune.
